What is the scheme?
Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) is the Government of India’s health insurance scheme for poor and vulnerable families. Each family gets cashless treatment of up to Rs 5 lakh every year in government and empanelled private hospitals. Costs for 3 days before admission and 15 days after discharge are also covered.

When will I get the card? Who can apply?
Families listed in the SECC 2011 data (poor and deprived households) are eligible. There is no limit on family size or age. All senior citizens aged 70 years or above, whatever their income, can join through the Ayushman Vay Vandana Card. The card is completely free. If your name is on the list, you can download it after eKYC and approval. The scheme is also now running in West Bengal, from 16 August 2026.
